Volunteers needed for school visits

We are looking for volunteers to join the Cell EXPLORERS teams running Fantastic DNA or Little Cells school visits during Science Week & the Galway Science and Technology Festival. When ? Cell EXPLORERS teams to bring hands-on science to Irish schools

This week, the public could read about the expansion of our programme and our partnerships with University of Limerick and Athlone Institute of Technology in several publications. Funded by a two-year Science Foundation Ireland Discover Award, the partnership will see teams visit primary schools in their localities sharing the wonder of science, allowing children to act like real scientists in their own classrooms."

Launch of Galway Science and Technology Festival 2015

National Science week is celebrating it's 20th birthday this year with the theme of Science Week 2.0: Design Your Future. Science week runs from the 8th to the 15th November, with Galway Science and Technology Festival (GSTF) going that extra mile, running from 9th to 22nd November for a fortnight of different Science events across the county. The GSTF launched it's exciting programme of events on Monday last, the 19th October, in Medtronic's Customer Innovation Centre. Scientist for A Day is Back!

Cell EXPLORERS, Eco EXPLORERS and Kitchem Chemistry are reuniting again to run another Scientist for A Day workshop full of exciting experiments and activities! Aimed at children aged between 7 and 13 the camp will take place in one of the laboratories in NUI Galway. The workshop takes place on Wednesday the 28th October from 10am to 3pm. The cost is 10e per child with discounts available for multiple bookings. To book in email cellexplorers@nuigalway.ie. Welcome to our new volunteers!

Over the last few weeks we have been recruiting and training new volunteers. Over 100 people have signed up to volunteer with Cell EXPLORERS and already over 40 of these have completed training in the Fantastic DNA school session and are ready to go on school roadshows! The Cell EXPLORERS teams in the University of Limerick and Athlone IT are also getting ready for the new year. The Fantastic DNA school roadshows will visit primary schools during October and November throughout Galway county and in schools around Limerick and Athlone.
