Cell EXPLORERS is funded for another two years!

We are delighted and honoured to have received a Science Foundation Ireland Discover award to continue our work for the next two years. This award will fund the expansion of our national network from 10 to 13 partner teams located in Irish Higher education institutions. We are welcoming 3 new team based in Cork Institute of technology, Limerick Institute of technology and Galway-Mayo Institute of technology. The new funding will also allow us to start a research study on the impact of the fantastic DNA visits on children’s perception of science and scientists.

One the occasion of the announcement of the funding awards, as part of a national investment of €3.6 million, we met John Halligan, TD and Minister for Training, Skills, Innovation, Research and Development, on the 14th of February 2019 in Dublin.

Our programme is one out 41 diverse initiatives that will be supported by this year’s Discover Programme, with successful awardees being carefully selected through international peer-review.

Three other NUI Galway public engagement and education initiatives have been funded including ReelLIFE SCIENCE directed by our friend Enda O’Connell, Bright Club run by our colleague Jessamyn Fairfield and ‘Strength in Science’ Project by Sarah Gundy from CÚRAM. Congratulations and all the best for your projects!

Science Foundation Ireland Discover has invested in over 240 public engagement projects through the since 2013, including us. We would not exist without it continuous support! Thank you!

The Cell EXPLORERS network will be made of 13 partners in 2019 and 2020
