School visits a-plenty this science week with Cell EXPLORERS

Its another busy week here (when is it not!) at Cell EXPLORERS headquaters in the Biochemistry Department of NUI Galway. Monday saw Fantastic DNA school visits to St. Catherine's NS and New Inn NS with another visit on Tuesday to Newton NS and Friday we will visit Colaiste an Eachreidh in Athenry! But thats not all, today Little Cells went to Scoil Rois and on Tuesday and Thursday our 4th year Microbiology students bring their newly designed session on Magnicifent Microbes to Galway Educate Together NS. Phew! Hopefully we will inspire lots of Galway's future scientists this science week! And we will have more visits next week in the lead up to the Galway Science and Technology Festival Exhib

ReelLife Science winners announced!!

The winners are announced! After careful watching, re-watching, shortlisting and judging of more than 250 videos from all around the country, the 2014 ReelLife Science video competition winners have been decided upon by the three guest judges! In the Primary school section the Fifth and Sixth class students of Sooey National School, Co. Sligo, took the honours for their video ‘The Secret Life of Honey Bees’. First place in the secondary school competition went to Leaving Certificate student Julien Torrades from Summerhill College, Sligo for his video ‘The History of Medicine‘. Both schools win €1000 for their science programme, which will be presented to them at the Galway Science and Techno

Its National Science Week!

Happy National Science Week to you all! Events are happening all around the country from the 9th to the 16th of November to celebrate the 2014 National Science Week. The theme this year is 'The Power of Science' and the aim is to show the power that science, technology, maths and engineering has in our everyday lives. For a full list of events you can check out the events page. Luckily for us Galway folks, the Galway Science and Technology Festival runs FOR A WHOLE FORTNIGHT! And it culminates in the GSTF Exhibition Day, taking place this year on the 23rd November on NUI Galway campus. Check out the 5 super videos which are eligible to win a €250 prize donated by Medical Supply Company and vote on your favourite! These videos just missed out on being in the running for the top spot but we think they are awesome!! Make sure to have your say in which one wins this great prize! You can vote everyday until the 10th November. Meanwhile, the special guest judges are busy deciding which videos will earn the grand prizes, which will be given out at this years Galway Science and Technology Festival at the Exhibition day on the 23rd November!
