We are recruiting our next National Coordinator!



Cell EXPLORERS (www.cellexplorers.com) is recruiting its next National Coordinator:


The Cell EXPLORERS educational outreach programme (www.cellexplorers.com), coordinated by the research team based at the University of Galway (NUI Galway just changed its name!), received funding support to run a national network of 13 partners team based in 10 institutions in Ireland. All partner teams in the network use the same unique model for sustainable STEM public engagement where local scientist volunteers deliver outreach activities to school children and the Irish public in the community. By using evaluation/ revision cycles and evidence-based education research findings, the programme works on developing best practice of the dissemination of Education & Public Engagement activities to schools, or other informal settings involving brief interactions with Scientists.


The current funding of the Cell Explorers network has the following specific objectives

  1. Support an active network disseminating Education & Public Engagement activities

  2. Evaluate impact of the network practice on young participants

  3. Plan for sustainability





Post NUIG RES 219-22 - National Coordinator/Research Associate - Public Engagement


The successful candidate will act as the national coordinator and manage the running and the evaluation of the Cell EXPLORERS National network. With the assistance of a research assistant, they will manage and organise the national partner teams set up, training, the logistics of delivering materials and equipment, and perform data collection for the evaluation. An important part of the role is the analysis of data collected to measure the network activities and the evaluation of their impact, and generate guidelines, reports and publications based on results.

They will integrate the Informal Science Education research team based at the University of Galway directed by Dr Muriel Grenon (Principal investigator and Director of Cell EXPLORERS) and made of 4 other members, including a research assistant involved in supporting the national coordination. The successful candidate will also be involved in the delivery and coordination of the educational outreach activities and the team of volunteers of the University of Galway/NUI Galway Cell EXPLORERS team. The newly recruited coordinator will overlap for 2 months with the current Cell EXPLORERS national coordinator.


The post is particularly well adapted to candidates with experience working in Education and public engagement, working with young people and an interest in STEM (All details of specific requirement in the PDF or University of Galway/NUIGalway job webpage below).

Position available from the 1st of November. Closing date at 5pm on 22nd of September 2022 - interviews currently planned on the 6th of October 2022. Salary: €39,523 per annum pro rata for shorter and/or part-time contracts (public sector pay policy rules pertaining to new entrants will apply).
