Earn Your Badge!

Each of the 6 Cell EXPLORERS Badges represent different skills and levels of involvement. 

 

  • Decide! Which specific badges are you eligible to apply for now and which badges you want to try and aim for next year? Check the requirements for each badge below. Note that an essential requirement for every badge is to have successfully been through guarda vetting.​

 

  • NUI Galway ALIVE Badge: Any NUI Galway Cell EXPLORERS volunteer who has worked with us for 10 hours can apply for the ALIVE volunteering award (see procedure 2016 here or here). Once ALIVE cross-check your application with us, you will be attributed the ALIVE badge and your award.

You can apply for this badge if you have: 

  • Trained in a Cell EXPLORERS session

  • Demonstrated in a school OR at science festival/camp etc. 

  • Helped with prep or analysis

  • Been Garda vetted

You can apply for this badge if you have: 

  • Acheived Demonstrator Badge criteria

  • Received presentation training

  • Presented at least 4 times in the classroom on school visits OR at a workshop/camp/science festival

​

You can apply for this badge if you have: 

  • Acheived Demonstrator Badge criteria

  • Been team leader on at least 3 school visits OR been responsible for the organisation of a festival/open day workshop or stand or science camp/classes

  • Trained and managed volunteers

  • Completed short feedback or evaluation reports

You can apply for this badge if you have: 

  • Acheived Demonstrator Badge criteria

  • Significantly contributed to creation of a session or created a new resource

  • Piloted the new activity/resource

  • Evaluated and reflected on this pilot and prepared a report

Automatic badge awarded upon acheivement of earning Demonstrator, Communicator, Leader and Creator badges.

You can apply for this badge if you have: 

  • Acheived Acheiver Badge criteria

  • Been the leader in further development (after pilot) of a successful novel outreach activity

  • Led coordination, training and management of a team of demonstrators for a novel activity

  • Run an outreach event as the main event manager

  • Been a named applicant on a successful science outreach grant funding application

  • Evaluated, reflected and prepared reports on the event
